New Helpful Borough Links

I’ve just added a new Borough Info page with links to various important information for the Borough of Bradley Beach. There are currently direct links to all the important Borough web sites.

This area will be expanded with time to include more helpful references for all things Bradley Beach!

Cubacan

I just had lunch in an excellent new Cuban restaurant, Cubacan, on the boardwalk in Asbury Park. It’s in the same building as Stella Marina and occupies the space where The Boards used to be.

The food is, in a word, excellent. They have a traditional soup which, if it were the only thing on the menu, would make the restaurant worth the visit. They offer Ceviche, a spicy dish of raw seafood marinated in citrus juices, as an appetizer. There are 4 varieties, shrimp, salmon, tuna and red snapper. There’s a sampler which includes any 3 of those 4. It’s also terrific. If you like the eclectic sushi offerings at Taka, you’ll love these appetizers.

There are a number of main courses and sandwiches, all prepared beautifully. They also have a selection of particularly interesting salads with a tasty house dressing.

The interior has been completely redesigned with a black and white motif and is much more open and pleasant than the Boards used to be. The waitress told us that they have either bands or a DJ on certain nights.

This is definitely worth a try if you’re looking for a nice place for lunch or dinner in Asbury Park!

Cold Weekend in April

I was hoping for a nice warm day in mid-April, but got one that fealt more like January. I actually walked down to the ocean to look at the extremely rough surf, but the wind was whipping off the ocean and it was too cold.

I saw some boards leaning up against the side of the Honeysuckle Cafe. I walked around the building, expecting to see them getting ready for the season, but there was no other sign of activity.

I guess I have to wait a little longer for some nice spring weather!

The Honeysuckle Cafe

It’s still closed up for the winter, but the owners should be coming back from Florida soon to open up for the summer.

Our Bradley Beach Home

As my husband mentioned in his first post, this past July we bought a second home in Bradley Beach. The purchase was the culmination of three years of looking– sometimes avidly, sometimes half-heartedly — for a beach house.  Finally the seashells had all aligned and a house we had looked at and loved in ’07 came back on the market at a price we could afford. Considering the housing situation, it became a now-or-never proposition and we took the plunge. A Beginning

My wife and I just bought a house in Bradley Beach at the end of last summer. We’ve been coming down most weekends since then. I’m going to use this blog to document my impressions of this place as I get to know it through all of its seasons.

A good sign, so far, is that the more I’m here, the more I like it.

I’m going to try to post some pictures from around town and document some of the things I’ve found interesting.

Thanks for reading!
